Are you traveling to Athens in search of new experiences? Then you can not miss these wonderful places that reflect the history of the city and accompany the landscape with its beautiful architecture. Come and meet them!
Although Athens is full of monuments and tourist attractions, a tour of the city should begin with its most important building, the Acropolis.
To get there you must climb a hill from where you can contemplate a beautiful landscape. In this ancient temple are the ruins of the most famous monuments of Greece, among which the Parthenon stands out. After the Acropolis, this building persists as one of the symbols of the city. It is a marble temple dating back to the 5th century BC.
Another temple not to be missed during a trip to Athens is the temple of Olympian Zeus. It is located southeast of the Acropolis and its construction was carried out during the 6th and 2nd centuries B.C., in honor of that god.
Today, after an earthquake during the Middle Ages, what remains of the temple are its immense Corinthian style columns that reflect the classical period of Athens.
Another way to learn about the history of ancient Athens is to visit its museums. Among the most important is the Acropolis Museum.
Located a few meters from the temple, this building exhibits different objects belonging to the monuments of the Acropolis. In this way, visitors have the opportunity to learn more about the remains of the city through sculptures and fragments of the buildings. In addition, being located a few meters above the temple, it is possible to contemplate it with height.
On the other hand, a walk through the Archaeological Museum invites the public to discover objects from prehistoric times discovered in Greece. Throughout different exhibitions it is possible to observe the remains of vessels, mummies and sculptures, among other unmissable findings.
Finally, if you are looking for a space dedicated to the city’s art, the National Gallery is the place to visit. This Pinacoteca houses a collection of paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries.
During the visit to the Gallery you can contemplate chronologically ordered works and sculptures that belonged to renowned European artists, such as Delacroix and Picasso.
The trip to Athens should also include a moment of dispersion, and what better than to have it in a walk through the National Gardens.
This green space is surrounded by hundreds of trees and even a pond, ideal for relaxing. And to end the trip with an incredible view, the Lycabettus Hill is the best area of the city. The temple of Zeus is located there, so it is a very busy place.
But it is also chosen by many because you can contemplate the landscape of the city and the Acropolis with the colors of the sunset.
