Visits in Lisbon

Sights

One of the most important buildings in Lisbon is the Castle of São Jorge. Located on a hill that allows you to enjoy incredible views of the city, this place served as a royal palace.

The Lisbon earthquake of 1755 left the castle in ruins. But today it is part of one of the city’s monuments. An unmissable visit!

Nearby is the Sé of Lisbon Cathedral, the oldest church in the city. In it you can tour the chapel, a cloister and a Treasure Room.

From the banks of the Tagus River you can access the Belem Tower. At the top there is a terrace from where you can enjoy a panoramic view. The Jerónimos monastery, inaugurated in the 16th century, can be seen in this landscape.

Lisbon Parks

Green areas

In recent years Lisbon was named European Green Capital for its initiatives to improve the environment and its parks.

The largest in the city is Edward VII park and it extends over 25 hectares. What stands out most about this space is its botanical garden, lake and playground.

One of the favorite green places of the locals is the Jardim da Estrela. In this space there are numerous species of exotic plants, a lake and even a library. Continuing with the gardens, the Botanical Garden, inaugurated in 1878, is ideal to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and rest.

Finally, the largest green area in Lisbon is in the Forest Park of Monsanto. In addition to providing wonderful views of the city and the Tagus River, it has 900 hectares where you can ride a bike, have a picnic or exercise.

Lisbon Museums

A tour of these museums will be enough to learn about the history and culture of Lisbon. The Lisbon History Museum exhibits everything related to key events in the Portuguese capital.

With themed spaces and rooms, visitors have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the experience of knowing facts that marked the city from the beginning. Like, for example, the 1755 earthquake and the rebirth of Lisbon thanks to the Marquis of Pombal.

As for art, there are several museums with unique collections. In the National Museum of Ancient Art there are collections with works of religious art, while in the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum exclusive pieces of said magnate are exhibited.

A different way of visiting museums is offered by Living Science, an interactive place that mixes science and technology. There are activities for adults and children to entertain themselves while they learn.

And for those interested in the scientific area, the Knowledge Pavilion has educational exhibits to help them. Among them, activities where children can build houses to scale and learn science such as mathematics stand out.
