the Universal Exhibition<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5460cf80 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5460cf80\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>At the end of the 19th century, Paris was one of the largest cities in Europe, and its old streets could not cope with the growing population. Therefore, the local administration designed innovative urban plans, to create new roads and make the French capital a more walkable place.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Pont Alexandre III<\/strong> was part of this plan, but its design would also serve another purpose, since the Universal Exhibition of 1900 was approaching and <a href=\"https:\/\/tripaim.com\/blog\/en\/paris-en\/paris\"><span style=\"color: #842000;\"><strong>Paris<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the chosen venue, had to show its best face.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>The metropolis had already impressed in other editions of this convention, especially with the newly built Eiffel Tower, so the Pont Alexandre III had to rise to the occasion.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Construction work began in 1896, with Emperor Nicholas II of Russia and his wife being the special guests, who added a solemn touch to the occasion.
