the <a href=\"https:\/\/tripaim.com\/blog\/en\/prague\/prague\"><span style=\"color: #842000;\"><strong>Prague<\/strong><\/span><\/a> New Town project, decreed by the famous King of Bohemia and Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV in 1348. <strong>It was destined to be one of the main markets in Prague<\/strong>. The original name &#8220;Horse Market&#8221; was changed to St. Wenceslas Square in 1848.&nbsp;<\/p><p><br><\/p><p>Today, Wenceslas Square is, among other things, <strong>a traditional meeting point for the citizens of Prague<\/strong>. It is also one of the most popular cultural centers in the city.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Likewise, the square has been the site of many significant historical events. For example, standing in front of the statue of Saint Wenceslas, the famous Czech writer and politician <strong>Alois Jir\u00e1sek<\/strong> read the document proclaiming the founding of independent Czechoslovakia in 1918.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Also, during the <strong>German occupation of Czechoslovakia<\/strong>, the Nazis used Wenceslas Square for military parades and propaganda events.
