as that of the city itself. According to official records, the first bridge built over the narrowest part of the Arno River was the work of the Romans when the city was founded.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>This first bridge, made of wood, resisted for a long time, until it finally fell victim to the floods, the flooding of the river and the wear of its materials.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>In the place of the old bridge, another would rise, which would become a true emblem for all Florentines.
