<strong>Akershus Fortress<\/strong> took place during the 14th century, and it served as a royal residence, a prison and a place of execution.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>It is located near the City Hall, in the heart of Oslo. And its name comes from the old farm on which the castle was built, the Aker farm.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Throughout its history, the fortress had great strategic and symbolic value for Norway. Its proximity to the sea was very important, as naval power was essential in protecting Norwegian trade interests.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Did you know that it also functioned as a royal residence? This happened during the reign of Christian IV. However, the nineteenth century was the phase of decline of the fortress.
