origins of the Calahorra Tower?<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3fbfd859 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" watchtower, made by the Muslims when C\u00f3rdoba was under the rule of \u00c1l-\u00c1ndalus. Since its inception, the main function of the Calahorra Tower was to protect one of the most important steps in the city, that of the <a href=\"https:\/\/tripaim.com\/blog\/en\/cordoba\/roman-bridge-of-cordoba\"><strong>Roman Bridge<\/strong><\/a> over the Guadalquivir River.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>If the entrance to the bridge was left unprotected, the city could be invaded or besieged, since controlling the Roman Bridge meant blocking the main Cordovan commercial road.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Based on that, the Calahorra Tower was designed as a powerful fortification, capable of housing the city&#8217;s vigilantes and warning of any possible external threat.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Over the centuries, the tower became a key defense point for the Castilian kings who took over Cordoba.
