For several centuries, this waterway was very important for local commerce, in addition to supplying water to the inhabitants of the area.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>However, for the Slovenian capital to continue growing, it was necessary to unite both parts of the city, which were separated by the Ljubljana river. The first bridges that crossed river waters were precarious structures, made of wood, so storms and earthquakes could easily destroy them.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>However, the Slovenian government kept trying to build a bridge that was strong enough to withstand any difficulty, but also harmonized with the rest of the structures in the city.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>In this way, <strong>Cobbler&#8217;s Bridge<\/strong> was born, which was inaugurated in 1931. Of course, the modern <strong>Cobbler&#8217;s Bridge<\/strong> hasn&#8217;t been standing since medieval times, yet the location remains exactly the same.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>For this reason, the new structure continues to be related to the characteristics that most identified its predecessors. The name is one of them, since many centuries ago, this bridge was the headquarters of the Ljubljana butchers.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Despite this, the meats sold there were often damaged, especially during the hottest months of the year. This caused a terrible odor, which even bothered the nobles and kings of the city.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>To remedy this situation, the Ljubljana administration relocated the butchers, while the bridge space was taken over by shoemakers.
