conoc\u00eda como el <em>Castello dos Mouros <\/em>durante el periodo musulm\u00e1n y fue su \u00faltimo basti\u00f3n antes de ser expulsados por las tropas de Alfonso I de Portugal. Fue una dura batalla que se prolong\u00f3 durante tres meses y fueron cruzados normandos y brit\u00e1nicos en su camino a Tierra Santa quienes echaron una mano al rey y terminaron de decantar la batalla del lado cristiano. Corr\u00eda el a\u00f1o 1147.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>A aquellos cruzados debe el Castillo su nombre, pues muchos de ellos eran fervientes devotos del m\u00e1rtir San San Jorge<\/strong> se convirti\u00f3 en Palacio Real y fue el escenario de momentos tan insignes como la recepci\u00f3n que se le ofreci\u00f3 a Vasco de Gama tras descubrir la ruta mar\u00edtima hasta las Indias.&nbsp;<\/p><p><br><\/p><p>En el siglo XVII, tras ser trasladada la residencia real a la ribera, comenz\u00f3 la decadencia del castillo que culmin\u00f3 con la devastaci\u00f3n sufrida en el terremoto de 1755 en <a href=\"https:\/\/tripaim.com\/blog\/lisboa\/lisboa\"><span style=\"color: #842000;\"><strong>Lisboa<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p><p><br><\/p>\n<p>Hay que esperar hasta principios del siglo XX para que las autoridades portuguesas se dieran cuenta de que, en lo alto de la colina de San Jorge, ten\u00edan un tesoro al que estaban dejando morir.&nbsp;<\/p><p><br><\/p><p>Durante las d\u00e9cadas de 1940 y 1990 se llevaron a cabo importantes trabajos de restauraci\u00f3n que hicieron de este monumento el lugar que podemos disfrutar hoy al Castillo de San Jorge es un verdadero placer que puede ocupar toda una ma\u00f1ana al viajero. La forma m\u00e1s t\u00edpica de acceder al castillo es el <strong>Arco de San Jorge<\/strong> que se abre al recinto que consta de 11 torres, patio de armas o calabozos, entre otras muchas delicias.<\/p><p><br><\/p><p>Como el viajero tiene permitido moverse libremente por el recinto se tiene la oportunidad de disfrutar de todo al ritmo que uno elija. Uno de los puntos que no se pueden pasar por alto es la <strong>Torre de Ulises<\/strong>. Aunque es cierto que el Castillo de San Jorge regala unas vistas incre\u00edbles desde muchos de sus rincones, esta torre tiene la ventaja de albergar el periscopio de Da Vinci que permite una panor\u00e1mica de 360 grados.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><br><\/p><p>Tambi\u00e9n merece la pena llegar hasta la <strong>Puerta de Moniz<\/strong>, donde revivir la leyenda del h\u00e9roe Martim Moniz. Cuentan que este ilustre caballero fue el art\u00edfice de la victoria sobre los musulmanes gracias a que sacrific\u00f3 su vida al colocar su cuerpo para impedir que los musulmanes cerraran la puerta, dejando as\u00ed el camino libre a sus compa\u00f1eros.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><br><\/p><p>Otro de los alicientes de este lugar es <strong>Olisoponia<\/strong>, un espect\u00e1culo multimedia que se hace sobre las ruinas del palacio que cuenta la historia de nuestro pa\u00eds vecino. Sin olvidarnos de los jardines, un lugar perfecto para pasear y relajarse entre patos y pavos reales.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><br><\/p><p>Una vez terminada la visita, si acompa\u00f1an las fuerzas, no hay mejor forma de despedirse del Castillo de San Jorge que perderse por las callejuelas que pueblan la colina. El barrio de <strong>Santa Cruz do Castello<\/strong> es un entramado de peque\u00f1as calles, que casi parece un laberinto pensado para despistar al visitante, poblado de buc\u00f3licas casas decoradas con cientos de flores.<\/p>\n<p><br><\/p><p>Y cerca se encuentra la <a href=\"https:\/\/tripaim.com\/blog\/lisboa\/la-catedral-de-lisboa\"><span style=\"color: #842000;\"><strong>Catedral de
