Luego vino la Segunda Guerra Mundial, cuando B\u00e9lgica a\u00fan estaba tratando de recuperarse completamente de la primera.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Despu\u00e9s lleg\u00f3 el periodo de posguerra y la descolonizaci\u00f3n, por lo que B\u00e9lgica perdi\u00f3 a todas sus colonias en el continente africano. A pesar de ello, esta naci\u00f3n nunca se ha dado por vencida, y a la mitad del siglo XX, los belgas ya estaban preparados para volver a tener un gran pa\u00eds.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Este momento de avance y crecimiento qued\u00f3 marcado con la celebraci\u00f3n de la Exposici\u00f3n General en Bruselas, la primera exposici\u00f3n mundial de importancia despu\u00e9s de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Su construcci\u00f3n estuvo a cargo del famoso arquitecto belga, Andr\u00e9 Waterkeyn.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>Armar esta enorme pieza arquitect\u00f3nica no fue nada f\u00e1cil, porque la estructura era inestable, y se necesitaron de tres torres para poder sostener sus pesadas esferas, que est\u00e1n conectadas por una serie de t\u00faneles, los cuales tambi\u00e9n sirven como camino entre una esfera y otra.<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p><p>A pesar de su complejidad, la construcci\u00f3n del Atomium fue r\u00e1pida, y estuvo lista para ser presentada en la Exposici\u00f3n General de 1958.
