Although it is quite a place visited by tourists and locals, the Chatuchak Market is relatively new, especially when compared to other places in Bangkok.
The first predecessor of this market, opened its doors in the 1940s, when Thai law established that all cities should have their own commercial space. This was relocated several times, until it was established next to Chatuchak Park.
This is where the name of this magnificent market comes from, which has more than 15,000 stalls, where everything is sold. It does not matter if you are looking for clothes, shoes, household items, handicrafts or perhaps some eccentricity that reminds you of your trip to Thailand, rest assured that in the Chatuchak Market you will find what you want.
If you plan on going to the biggest market in Bangkok, there are a few things you need to know before you hit the road. The first is that although this is a fairly popular shopping spot, it is only open on weekends and holidays. So you must take into account which of these days is more convenient for your visit.
Also, keep in mind that this is an incredibly large market, covering an area of 140,000m². Come on, it’s not just big, it’s huge. Its size makes Chatuchak Market the ideal place to find bargains and haggle prices, but it is also easy to get lost in its myriad of aisles, especially if you are visiting for the first time.
