Cerro Otto, a balm for the senses.

Otto Goedecke, one of the first pioneers, was a German settler who arrived around 1892, lived on the slopes of this hill and the one who gave the name to this hill that is located in the Nahuel Huapi National Park at a height of 1405 meters above sea level. Since then it is Cerro Otto.

Excursions from Bariloche

Ascending Cerro Otto

Just 5 km. from Bariloche, in the Melipal neighborhood, specifically between Av. de los Pioneros and Av. Sara Mara Furman, is the cable car that will transport us to Cerro Otto. The cable car inaugurated in 1974 by Boris Furman is made up of 42 cabins with capacity for 4 people each and it takes 12 minutes to ascend the route that covers 2,100 meters.

 

It is estimated that it is capable of carrying 500 passengers per hour. Already ascending, we contemplate a splendid view of the panorama, a prelude to what we will find at the end of the ascent.

 

For those who prefer the car there is also a path that leads to the upper base. Cable car staff inform newcomers of the possible activities that can be carried out.

At the upper station there is a rotating Confectionery, which takes 20 or 40 minutes (depending on the speed established) to rotate 360 degrees, fun while having breakfast to contemplate a total panoramic view of the Nauel Huapi National Park. This confectionery boasts of being the first Rotating Confectionery in South America.

 

There is also an Art Gallery, curious because they show exact replicas of Michelangelo’s works, which have been created in marble dust by the Pietro Bazzanti Gallery in Florence.

 

For nature lovers, from Cerro Otto there are several mountain trails in the surroundings. If you visit it in winter you have slopes to practice Andean skiing and Nordic skiing, and there is also a small sport climbing center on site.

From the top of Cerro Otto you can see to the north Bariloche and Lake Nauel Huapi, to the east Cerro Leones, Cerro Villegas and a part of the Patagonian steppe, to the south Lake Gutiérrez and to the west Cerro Catedral, Lake Moreno and the Andes mountain range.
