How is the Gran Vía of Madrid

Walk along the iconic Gran Vía

As we are going with limited time, and although we would like to see everything that Madrid has to offer, it is possible to take a short route and visit some of the city’s must-sees.

For this reason, we will start our way at the beautiful Puerta de Alcalá, a monument with more than three centuries old that in past times received visitors to Madrid, and which has given rise to numerous cultural manifestations, such as songs or poems.

From there we will continue walking along Calle Alcalá until we come face to face with the Fuente de Cibeles, a spectacle to behold, in which we can take beautiful photos. Then, after passing a few streets, we will be immersed in the noisy, lively and colorful Gran Vía, an extensive avenue bathed side by side by restaurants, shops and stores of all kinds, as well as charming buildings that combine the most striking architecture Madrid modernist.

What to see in Madrid

Visit the Royal Palace of Madrid

Walking the Gran Vía can be exhausting, but the magic of its streets will give us the energy necessary to continue the route and make the most of our brief stay in the city. For this reason, after passing through the Plaza del Callao, we will head directly to the vicinity of the Palacio Real de Madrid.

Right there, where so many transcendental episodes have occurred for the history of Spain and also of the western world, we will have the opportunity to capture magnificent images, as well as enjoy the Plaza de Oriente, with its gardens, stairways and nooks that make us imagine bygone times.

Enjoy the Plaza de España

After a while appreciating the surroundings of the Royal Palace of Madrid, we can continue our way in two ways. The first one will take us a few streets to the south, until we find the Plaza Mayor in Madrid. Meanwhile, the second route heads north, until it reaches the Plaza de España. Regardless of our selection, the result will be phenomenal.

In the Plaza Mayor we will find an impressive esplanade surrounded by large buildings, which represent an unmistakable sample of the identity of Madrid. In the center of it is located the Statue of Felipe III, built more than 500 years ago.

If our choice is to go to the Plaza de España, we must consider that the walk will be a little longer. However, it is worth doing, since it is made up of beautiful gardens that add another air to the urban bustle of the center of Madrid. In addition, in this square we also find the Monument to Miguel de Cervantes, consisting of a large fountain together with several statues around it.
