However, its daily life is also an important tourist attraction, since in the main cities of Morocco there is always something new to do and discover. Among its many destinations, there is the city of Marrakech, one of the most famous in the whole country.
In Marrakech, we find Jemaa El Fna Square, the busiest meeting point in this town. In the square, you can find anything from snake charmers to traditional food stalls. Without a doubt, at Jemaa El Fna, anything is possible.
In the same way, thanks to its infinite peculiarities, the Jemaa El Fna Square is becoming more and more popular, forming part of the must-sees that every tourist must visit while in Marrakech.
Currently, the exact date on which this area of Marrakech became a main square is not known. But, there is historical evidence that indicates that this place functioned as an execution center, where criminals and offenders were punished.
Fortunately, the square changed when local merchants settled there, transforming it into the commercial heart of the city. In the same way, the relevance of the Koutoubia Mosque, the most important in Marrakech, and other religious temples around the square, helped to give life and dynamism to this space.
Over the years, the Jemaa El Fna Square has become a symbol of identity for the inhabitants of Marrackeh, who take advantage of its proximity to the place to shop, meet friends or family and market their products.
Likewise, the Jemaa El Fna Square is an essential gastronomic point, especially at night, when street food stalls take over every corner of the square.
Where they sell juices, fruits, typical dishes and all kinds of sweets, making it the perfect alternative to try authentic Moroccan cuisine.
All cities have a place that identifies them, and in the case of Marrakech, that space is Jemaa El Fna Square. If you go for a walk in the city, sooner rather than later you will have to pass through its square.
Keep in mind that, although it is largely commercial, the Jemaa El Fna Square is a public area, so you can go whenever you want and enjoy its busy commercial style. Of course, remember that this can be a very crowded place, so be prepared to mix with the locals, and be surprised by their lively and fun daily life.
