Until the beginning of the 20th century, Belarus did not have a permanent theater company, despite having various groups of artists who were dedicated to ballet, opera and the staging of different dramatic works.
Fortunately, this changed in 1933, when the first national theater was founded. This was considerably small, but it laid the foundations for the future Minsk Opera House. The headquarters building of this theater company opened its doors in 1939, and since then many of the most important Slavic artists have performed there.
Despite this, the Minsk Opera had to overcome many difficulties to become what it is today. Also, the opera building had to withstand, together with the inhabitants of the city, the terrible clashes against the German army during the Second World War.
Later, the Minsk Opera became the scene of many political-themed works, especially those that were supported by the Soviet administration. As time passed, censorship gave way to more liberal plays, as well as various international collaborations.
Currently, this theater is one of the most important, known and visited in Belarus. There not only plays are presented, but also future artists, dancers and members of the orchestra are trained. For this reason, the Minsk Opera is a space dedicated to academia and the teaching of the arts.
In the same way, the theater headquarters stands out for its architectural peculiarity, since it has a severe facade, but an interior that evokes the appearance of the most classic theaters in Europe.
Similarly, the Minsk Opera House is adorned with various statues and sculptures, as well as a large fountain located in front of the main entrance of the place.
In addition, the Minsk Opera is proud to have presented several of the most famous operatic pieces from around the world, as well as the success that its company of artists and dancers has had in the various tours they have taken internationally.

This theater is open almost all year round, and offers top-notch shows. Note that the vast majority of the works will be in Russian, but during international festivals the Minsk Opera also offers some performances in English.
