Chile is known for being a mountainous country, with imposing natural landscapes dominated by the Andean mountains. Santiago, its capital, could not be the exception, and here we can find large slopes, which are easily visible from anywhere in the city.
One of the most popular hills is the Cerro de San Cristobal, located in the north of Santiago. Originally, this hill was an important point for the native inhabitants of the area, but it was devoid of vegetation and was not a place of recreation until the middle of the 20th century, when a large afforestation and urban planning project began.
Similarly, Cerro de San Cristobal is famous for having one of the first long-range telescopes installed in Chile, as well as for its extensive transportation system, consisting of a cable car, different funicular routes and numerous hiking trails.
This hill is part of the largest urban park in Chile, so there are many places of interest that make Cerro San Cristobal a true must-see.
Among the places you can visit while you are passing through the park, are the National Zoo of Chile, the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception, the Manuel Foster Astronomical Observatory, the Pablo Neruda Amphitheater, the House of Culture, the Japanese Gardens and the outdoor pools.
While, at the top of the hill, we find the beautiful Mirador Terraza Bellavista, which is one of the busiest places in the park, as well as the last station of the funicular.
Similarly, the Cerro de San Cristobal is a place very visited by lovers of hiking. On the hill there are cycle paths and trails, which allow the transit of people who go on foot or by bicycle.
In addition, the Cerro de San Cristobal offers experiences for the whole family, since there are also picnic areas, a plaza and playgrounds. If you are traveling with small children, do not hesitate to visit the fantastic hill of Cerro de San Cristobal.
Santiago de Chile is an interconnected city, and it is easy to get to the Cerro de San Cristobal. The most recommended accesses are through the Recoleta neighborhood or through Pedro de Valdivia Norte Avenue, located in the Providencia neighborhood.
Visitors can also choose the best way to get to the top of the hill. The most used option is the cable car, but you can also go up on foot, especially if you go with the intention of doing some physical exercise or if you want to spend a little more time touring the park and discovering all its wonders.
Be that as it may, you cannot leave Santiago without having gone on an excursion to the incomparable Cerro de San Cristobal, we assure you that the experience will fascinate you.
