Collserola Tower is the tallest structure in all of Barcelona, as well as its most important telecommunications tower. Its structure is unique in all of Catalonia, and today it has become one of the most representative buildings in the city.
The history of the most important communications tower in all of Catalonia began in 1990, when its construction was proposed so that the city’s telecommunications could be supplied during the time that the Barcelona Olympic Games were to last in 1992.
The construction was approved and completed the same year as the Olympics. Collserola Tower facilitated the transmission of all the events, matches and competitions of the Olympic Games to the entire city of Barcelona and its surrounding areas.
The design of the tower was in the hands of the English architect, Norman Foster Robert. The architectural style of the Collserola Tower is futuristic, without any type of aesthetic excess or unnecessary decorative accessories on its facade.
Today it continues to allow the transmission of numerous radio and television stations. Decades after its construction, it continues to flawlessly fulfill the purpose for which it was created.
This large telecommunications tower is located in the Cerro de Vilana, it is made of steel and concrete, and in different parts of the structure are the numerous antennas that allow the transmission of the different radio stations and television channels.
The structure of the Collserola Tower has a weight of 3,500 tons, a height of 288 meters and in its interior structure there are different floors that serve as offices, reception rooms and restaurants.
Many companies can hold events at the tower’s facilities, and visitors have access to the floor where the viewpoint is located, which offers some of the best views of the entire city of Barcelona.
Currently, it is owned by the Barcelona City Council, together with other private telecommunications companies of Spanish origin.
