Córdoba is a city famous for its historical and cultural richness, which attracts thousands of visitors each year. However, some of its treasures are not so well known, but it is worth discovering a little more about them. Do you want to know more about the Roman Temple of Córdoba? We invite you to continue reading!
The city of Córdoba has had many roles throughout its long history, at times it was a simple provincial city, then the capital of a Roman domain, then it was owned by the Muslims, until it became part of Spain.
We can assume that, with so many experiences to its credit, the city is full of archaeological ruins and monuments that identify its different historical periods.
Such is the case of the Roman Temple, which was built during the 1st century, under the mandate of Emperor Claudius. Let us remember that, during that time, the city of Córdoba flourished and became an important cultural reference for the entire region.
The Roman Temple was part of that flourishing, during its heyday, it was one of the most important structures in the city, as well as being a symbol that exemplified the prosperity of Córdoba.
Despite this, the changes and the growth that the city experienced, made the legacy of the Roman Temple be lost in history. At least, that was the case until one day, while some work was being carried out to expand the town hall, it was rediscovered.

The archaeological ruins of the Roman Temple can be seen near the center of the city of Córdoba. The place lost much of its original infrastructure, but it remains a monument of incredible importance for the identity of Cordoba.
Inside, the shapes of the original structure can still be clearly seen, and the tall columns at its entrance suggest that it was a special place for the ancient people of Cordoba.
Likewise, and in the same way that it has happened with many other ancient structures in the city, the Roman Temple had to be reformed and restored. The maintenance work, which was carried out in 2017, cleaned the structure, strengthened the weakest parts, and removed the remains that had been irreparably damaged by time.
Currently, the Roman Temple is part of the central area of Córdoba, its relative proximity to other places of interest such as the Plaza de las Tendillas or the Barrio de la Judería, have made it a point of tourist interest in great demand.

Although at first glance, the Roman Temple does not seem to be a must see for those who go to Córdoba, the truth is that the place is an almost obligatory stop for tourists.
Not only because of its central location, but also because of how easy it is to get close to it, tourists don’t have to stand in long lines to get a closer look, or arrive early in the morning to buy a ticket.
Actually, you can get to the Roman Temple almost without realizing it, while walking from Plaza de las Tendillas to Plaza de la Corredera. But no matter how you get there, you can be sure that the mythical Roman Temple is a sight that you will love.
