Dubrovnik is one of the most beautiful towns in Croatia. Located in the Dalmatia region, this metropolis receives thousands of tourists each year, both national and foreign. But this was not always the case, since the history of Dalmatia is quite turbulent, these difficulties left their own legacy, which can be seen in the Walls of Dubrovnik.
It is impossible to talk about Croatia without mentioning its huge coastline, which has a close relationship with the Mediterranean Sea and also with the Adriatic Sea.
The first settlements in this area are ancient, but the true development of the region began with the arrival of the Romans. Unfortunately, this period of growth came to an abrupt end, when the various Slavic tribes that inhabited other areas of Dalmatia began their attacks against the coastal populations.
Dubrovnik was born as a refuge for Roman citizens fleeing besieged towns, and over time it became an enclave for the Latin culture of the Adriatic Sea. Likewise, this metropolis was the victim of several warlike conflicts, which were incessant throughout almost its entire history.
For this reason, Dubrovnik was transformed into a fortress, surrounded by walls that protected its population from external threats. In this way, the famous Walls of Dubrovnik arose.
Nowadays, tranquility reigns on the Croatian coasts, and in Dubrovnik there is no longer talk of wars or border problems, but of the great boom that tourism has had throughout the region.
This city is known for its idyllic landscapes, its white sand beaches, the blue of its seas, the warmth of its people and its beautiful architecture. Curiously, the most visited place in the city is not the bays or the museums, but the Walls of Dubrovnik.
These mythical walls rise around the small island where Dubrovnik is located, which is only a few meters from the mainland. In addition, these walls are open to the public, can be traversed almost entirely, and offer the most impressive views of the city and the pristine waters that surround it.
In the same way, the Walls of Dubrovnik have transformed this peaceful coastal town into a symbol of popular culture, since different scenes from the famous TV series, Game of Thrones, were filmed there.
The simple fact of knowing a metropolis as beautiful as Dubrovnik, is something that is completely worth it. This tiny corner of Dalmatia is as cozy as it is heavenly, and if you were looking for where to spend your Mediterranean holidays, this is the ideal option.
Similarly, don’t miss the opportunity to get lost in its narrow streets, discover its old churches, mingle with the locals and enjoy its peaceful atmosphere.
Similarly, Dubrovnik is the dream destination for lovers of history and classical architecture. Here everything is perfectly preserved, and some of its neighborhoods are so beautiful that they seem stopped in time.
Of course, if you travel to the city, you have to walk along the Walls of Dubrovnik, from where you can appreciate the incomparable beauty of the Adriatic shore.
