When Bavaria was a duchy, its rulers wanted a castle of their own, just as impressive as other German royal residences. Thus was born the Nymphemburg Palace, a baroque work that today continues to be one of the most representative buildings in southern Germany.
The history of the Nymphemburg Palace began long before Bavaria was a kingdom, much less a federated state. Previously, this region was part of the Holy Roman Empire, and political power belonged to the Dukes of Bavaria.
In fact, the Nympheburg Palace was a commission made by the then ruling family, who wanted to have a large summer residence, located in the vicinity of Munich.
It was Henrietta of Savoy, the wife of Duke Ferdinand de Wittelsbach, who planned almost everything about the palace. The Duchess was also a fan of art, and wanted her future summer home to follow the style that was in vogue at the time, the Baroque.
With this idea, the construction of the Nymphemburg Palace began, which was inaugurated in 1664.
Since then, this fabulous castle was one of the most important residences for the Bavarian nobility, and today it is still owned by the descendants of the Wittelsbach family.
Today, this grand palace is a museum, a park, and is also home to the important Munich Botanical Garden.
Similarly, Nympherburg Palace has a wide variety of attractions, which all visitors love. Of these, the rooms, living rooms and other interior spaces of the palace stand out. These are exquisitely preserved, and in many the original decorations can still be seen, just as the dukes and kings who lived there left them.

In addition, we cannot fail to mention the enormous lake of the Nympherburg Palace, which is the heart of its beautiful gardens.
Without a doubt, the Nymherburg Palace is one of the must-see places in Munich. If you want to know the most charming side of the outskirts of the city, you cannot miss the opportunity to visit it.
It is open throughout the year, but with different hours, so you will have to adjust your visit according to the palace calendar. In the same way, you must take into account the extension of the castle and its gardens, since it is necessary to have some time to be able to fully enjoy them.
