Avenue des Champs Elysées is one of the most emblematic points of Paris at Christmas. This famous boulevard is illuminated with thousands of lights that decorate the trees and facades, creating a dazzling landscape that culminates in the Arc de Triomphe. Along the avenue, you will find numerous Christmas markets and picture-perfect spots.   

 

OAnother iconic landmark is the Eiffel Tower, which at Christmas time is dressed in a special glow. Visitors can climb its observation deck to enjoy panoramic views of the illuminated city or stroll through the gardens of the Champ de Mars, where outdoor ice rinks are often set up.

 

On the other hand, the Notre-Dame Cathedral organizes solemn masses and Christmas concerts that envelop you in an atmosphere of peace and spirituality. While department stores such as Galeries Lafayette and Le Bon Marché are unmissable destinations for their spectacular decorations and themed window displays that attract children and adults.

A very special custom is the lighting of lights in the streets and monuments in early December, which marks the official start of the Christmas season. It is also a tradition for Parisians to decorate their homes with nativity scenes, or “crèches”, depicting the birth of Jesus.  


During this time of the year, it is advisable to visit the Christmas markets, to enjoy mulled wine, crêpes and festive shopping. These markets are present in various areas, such as Montmartre and Trocadero, offering a warm and cozy atmosphere.


The advent calendar is also a key element in Parisian celebrations. Major chocolate and confectionery brands produce exclusive designs that locals enjoy from the beginning of December.

Finally, on Christmas Day, many Parisian families attend the Midnight Mass in churches such as the Sacré-Cœur, a solemn moment that celebrates the spirit of the season.

Activities to do with the family at Christmas

Paris is a fantastic destination to enjoy with the family during Christmas. One of the favorite activities is ice skating. Places like the Grand Palais Éphémère or the rinks at the Place de Ville de Ville offer this magical experience with spectacular views. 

 

Families can also enjoy a boat ride on the Seine River, where they can admire the illuminated city while enjoying a festive dinner or hot chocolate.

 

For their part, the little ones will be fascinated at Disneyland Paris, which becomes a Christmas paradise with themed parades, magical decorations and encounters with characters dressed as Santa Claus.

 

Another special activity is to visit the Jardin d’Acclimatation, a park that organizes Christmas workshops, attractions and shows for children. Finally, a stroll through the Museum of Decorative Arts, which during these dates presents interactive exhibits of Christmas stories and traditions, is perfect to share with the family.
