What is trdelník?

Trdelník is a type of cake, made with wheat flour and cooked on the grill. It has been popular for many years in countries such as Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, Sweden and Austria, but it is in the Czech Republic where it is best known and appreciated.

Its origin is not entirely clear, although it is presumed that the original recipe originated between the borders of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and that it used a type of dough typical of Hungary.

The preparation of the trdelník is quite simple, all you have to do is prepare the dough, and stretch it until it is like a long strip, take it carefully with your hands and roll it into a cylindrical wooden tube.

Once rolled up, the trdelník begins to roast, turning the tube to ensure that the dough cooks correctly, and after a few minutes, the preparation should be ready.

The more traditional version of trdelník is covered with honey, cinnamon or sugar, even a combination of all three.
