Tallinn, the most important city in Estonia, is a beautiful metropolis that deserves to be seen from the top. If you go on a trip to this region of the Baltic Sea, take the opportunity to visit the Television Tower, an emblematic monument for all Estonians, as well as one of the best viewpoints in the country.
In the mid-1980s, Estonia was part of the Soviet bloc, that is, it was one of the nations that was under the direct control of the Russian government. This fact not only influenced politics, but many other areas of daily life, such as sports and telecommunications.
Similarly, Tallinn, the Estonian capital, was a somewhat lethargic city, wounded by centuries of incessant warfare and the harshness of Soviet administration. However, this small Baltic country was beginning to take its first steps towards progress.
In 1980, the inhabitants of Tallinn witnessed the construction of the Television Tower, which would become the tallest building in the city. The main function of this tower was to improve the radio and TV signal, since the Olympic Games were about to be held, and the sailing competitions would take place in the Baltic Sea, very close to the port of Tallinn.
Later, Estonia became independent from Soviet control, and the famous Television Tower has become a symbol of national identity.
Today, the Television Tower, which is an impressive 314 meters high, continues to function. In addition, it is the main transmission channel for 16 radio stations, among which are some of the most listened to in the city.
But this is not all, since now the TV Tower is also a tourist point of great relevance, and is usually on the travel itinerary of the thousands of people who visit Tallinn every year.
If you have already planned your walk through the Estonian capital, but you do not want to leave out any of its must-sees, then it is time to schedule a tour of the Television Tower. Keep in mind that the entire structure of the tower was subjected to a significant number of reforms, so it is now much safer and has more spaces dedicated to tourism.
In the same way, in the Television Tower you will find a restaurant, where you can sit down to rest while tasting the great local cuisine. And if you like heights, get ready to climb the most impressive viewpoint in Tallinn, located at the top of the tower and from where you will have a 360 ° view.
Despite its immense height, the Television Tower is a fascinating place, which you can visit any day of the week. Remember that you will have to schedule your visit a couple of days before going, and buy the ticket online.
Similarly, you will have the opportunity to see other attractions of the Television Tower, such as its museum dedicated to technology and its 3D cinema, which shows the history of this incomparable construction.
