Going by subway or train from Athens airport to the center

Once arrived at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport a practical option to travel to the city is by subway. This means of transportation is the most efficient, comfortable and fast. To get on the subway, just go to the station located near the arrivals area.

All along the airport there are signs indicating how to get to the station, so it is very easy to find it. From there line 3 (blue line) connects the airport with several stations in the center of Athens such as Syntagma or Monastiraki.

Trains are available every half hour to pick up new passengers. The journey time to the city center is 45 minutes.

Buses to get from the airport to the center of Athens

Another practical option to reach the city center is by bus. Although it takes longer than the subway, it is cheaper. Just outside the arrivals terminal is the bus stop from where different bus lines depart to various parts of Athens.

To get to the heart of the city, the most convenient way is to take the X95 line that goes to Syntagma Square. This is the most popular area for tourists to stay as it is surrounded by restaurants, hotels and stores.

Cabs or private transfers to Athens

If you are looking to reach the city center by more comfortable means of transportation, there is the option of traveling by cab. This is the most expensive way of all and the travel time is between 35 and 40 minutes if there is no traffic on the road.

The cab option is recommended for those traveling in groups of four. In addition, it is recommended that the fixed rate be applied to avoid overcharging at the time of arrival at destination.

On the other hand, there is a more personalized service to move from Athens airport and it is through private transfers. It consists of arriving in the city and having a driver waiting at the terminal with a sign indicating the passenger’s name.

The driver for this trip, which costs a little more expensive than the cab, drops the guests off at the door of the accommodation and they are ready to start the city tour, exploring the main tourist attractions that Athens has to offer.
