Home | Oslo | What you can't miss | Clock Tower
When touring the Aker Brygge neighborhood in Oslo, it is impossible not to notice the Clock Tower on the quay. How do I get there? What other attractions are there at Aker Brygge? Come find out!
Built after the demolition of several industrial buildings between 1986 and 1998, Aker Brygge is an attractive and lively neighborhood. Its promenade is one of the most popular places in the city, both for tourists and locals. This is where the Clock Tower is located.
During hot days, Aker Brygge fills with people looking to enjoy the terraces of the cafes and restaurants, located on the waterfront. Some even dare to jump into the water from the dock!
Additionally, Aker Brygge has boutiques, jewelry stores, and grocery stores. Therefore, it is ideal for a walk and shopping.
By the way, if you are a lover of modern art, you will be delighted to know that in Aker Brygge there are several museums dedicated to this artistic movement. In the same way, this neighborhood is perfect to mix with the locals, and get caught up in their daily lives.
Located on Aker Brygge Pier, there is a copper Clock Tower, which used to be on top of the Verkstedhallen building. For 100 years, the area was home to one of the largest shipyards in Norway.
After the closure of the shipyard in 1982, the area was re-urbanized. Today, it is possible to find retail establishments where old workshops were located before.
Interestingly, the history of the Clock Tower is closely related to that of the shipyard workers. Since they depended on the clock to see the time, and avoid being late for their workday. Today, the Clock Tower is still very much loved by the inhabitants of the city.
Aker Brygge is the best option for a night out, since its bars are open until dawn. Enjoy a walk along the pier, and relax in one of the floating restaurants. There you will have a magnificent view of the port, and towards the medieval fortress of Akershus.
One of the most striking points of Aker Brygge is The Sneak Peak, a glass tower that has an elevator that rises 54 meters. Sure, it’s not a typical viewpoint, but visitors love to visit it.
The area also has an impressive architectural profile, where modern and functional elements are combined. Because of this, Aker Brygge is considered one of the most avant-garde architectural centers in Scandinavia.
Similarly, visiting Aker Brygge is easy. This is located on the Oslo Fjord, near the City Hall. So you can get to it by public transport. But if you choose to go in your own vehicle, there is a parking lot below the large pier.
Strolling through Aker Brygge is another way to see Oslo and discover the contrasts that the city offers. It is a different place to appreciate the original architecture of the Norwegian capital. Enjoying a pleasant walk on a sunny day will surely be one of the highlights of your trip.
