How to visit Athens in 2 days? What plans should I make? What are the places that I cannot miss? If you ask yourself these questions, don’t worry, here you will find the best ideas and the best itinerary to make your 48 hours in Athens an unforgettable experience.
The capital and most important city of Greece receives millions of tourists every year, attracted by its historical ruins and great places of cultural importance. However, Athens may seem, at first glance, a complex city that would not be easy to see in just 48 hours.
Luckily, the city always manages to have something to fascinate its visitors, even those who do not have much time to discover it. If your plan is to visit Athens in 2 days, you have to know where to start.
If you are a fan of Classical Greece, the Agora will be your favorite visit. You can go early, during the early hours of the morning, so you avoid the long lines of tourists and get a closer look at the ancient ruins and structures.
In the Agora you will see the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Temple of Apollo, the Temple of Aphrodite and that of Hephaestion, among many others.
From the Agora you can go to the Plaka neighborhood, an ideal place to eat a sandwich while enjoying its beautiful flowers and beautiful gardens.
At the end of the first day, you may still have enough energy to continue walking around the city. If you want to have a little fun and get to know the nightlife of Athens, go to the Koukaki neighborhood, which, like the Plaka neighborhood , is famous for its wide gastronomic offer and variety of bars where you can try typical Greek drinks.
Then go through Syntagma Square, where there is always something interesting to see or do. If you’re lucky, you might run into small festivals or cultural exhibitions.
Athens is known for its nightlife, and if you don’t want to go to bed yet, the great Athenian nightclubs are located near the coast. If you go in summer, you cannot stop celebrating the best in the Greek style. Rest assured that the next day, you will still be able to see many other things of Athens in 2 days.
To leave Athens with a big smile on your face and a lot of desire to return, you can start the morning of the second day by going up to the top of Mount Lycabeto by funicular. Once there, you will be able to see a spectacular sunrise over the capital of Greece.
To finish the visit, you can go through one of the largest markets in the city, called Yusurúm and located in the Monastiraki neighborhood. Here you will find clothes, bags, books, souvenirs and many other incredible things that will make you remember your visit to this fantastic European capital.
Near the market you will find one of the busiest streets in the city, and there will be the Arch of Hadrian and the Temple of Zeus, very close to each other. If you want to take some extra pictures while you’re still in Athens, these are the best options.
And how can it be otherwise, you have to visit the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. Living the experience of knowing Athens in 2 days is a wonderful opportunity, and of course you will not want to miss it.
