Traveling to Berlin and don’t know where to start your tour? With this guide to the best places in the city you will not miss any historical site. From museums and emblematic neighborhoods to the best green spaces, Berlin has it all!
Strolling through Berlin, it is impossible not to come across the famous Brandenburg Gate. This monument symbolizes peace after the fall of the Wall. There is the figure of the Goddess of Victory represented at the top of the door, 26 meters high.
In front of this monument is one of Berlin’s most popular avenues, Unter den Linden. It is a street surrounded by emblematic buildings built after World War II.
Finally, a visit to the Berlin Wall is a must on the trip, a place that houses much of the history of the city, from demonstrations to its fall in 1989. Today it is 1.3 kilometers long with graffiti illustrating different moments in history.
A particularity of Berlin is that it has a Museum Island where the most famous museums in the world are located. Located on the Spree River, the complex was declared a World Heritage Site and has numerous collections with objects from different parts of the world.
The most visited on the island is the Pergamon Museum, with exhibits of Islamic art dating from the 8th to the 19th centuries. While the New Museum features works of Egyptian art including paintings and ancient objects.
In the Bode Museum it is possible to discover an immense collection of sculptures from around the world, and art from the ancient Byzantine era. In addition, the building is one of many that suffered architectural damage from World War II bombing.
Finally, the Berlin Old Museum exhibits objects from ancient Greek and Roman art. Most of them are elements found in archaeological excavations. In addition to this, the architecture of the building also amazes its visitors.
Leaving aside the cultural visits, a good plan to enjoy a walk through Berlin is to visit its most popular parks and squares.
The most popular green area in Berlin is the Tiergarten Park. Throughout its 200 hectares, you can go for a bike ride and discover the corners that house lakes and monuments.
Another ideal park to rest and contemplate the landscape is Tempelhof. This space used to be an airport, but for years its runways have been used for skateboarding.
While in Mauer Park you can find everything from bars and food trucks to a dedicated karaoke area. In addition, an open-air market with stalls selling clothing, food and art is held in this area on weekends.
At the end of the tour, a visit to Alexanderplatz is a must. Located in the center of the city, this square has a tower from where you can contemplate the landscape, and a clock that marks the time of every city in the world. What are you waiting for?
