The Danish capital is known for its charming architecture and for its buildings that seem out of a fairy tale, of course, the palaces of Copenhagen could not be less than wonderful. Among the best known is Rosenborg Castle, one of the most beautiful and visited in the city.
Most of the countries that make up the Scandinavian peninsula are kingdoms, Denmark being one of them. This Nordic nation is one of the oldest in all of Europe, so we can find a lot of interesting facts in its long history.
Some of those moments were lived in Rosenborg Castle, which was built by King Christian IV, who hoped to make this his summer residence. However, it ceased to be used shortly after Cristián IV left power.
Despite this, Rosenborg Castle served as a refuge for the Danish Royal Family on two occasions, the first was when the Christianborg Palace suffered a serious fire, while the second time occurred when the British Navy attacked Copenhagen.
With the passage of time, Rosenborg Castle continued to be one of the most recognized in the city, but it went a long time without fulfilling a specific function. This was the case until it became the headquarters of the Royal Guard, and it is there that this section of the Danish army carries out its training.
This mythical building is surrounded by immense and beautiful gardens, but Rosenborg Castle may seem a bit small when compared to other royal residences, such as Amalienborg Palace and Christianborg Palace.
However, Rosenborg Castle still has a lot to offer, and its structure, which has an incomparable Dutch Renaissance style, makes it a unique building. Likewise, its appearance is idyllic, making it one of the most beautiful settings that you can find in Copenhagen.
In addition, Rosenborg Castle is internationally known for its reddish color, its large windows, its lounges, its large rooms and the excellent state of conservation in which the entire structure is located. Also, its distribution is unusual, since it is taller than it is wide.
For these reasons, this castle is one of the most frequented tourist attractions in the Danish capital, currently welcoming more than a million visitors each year.
Being located right in the center of Copenhagen, Rosenborg Castle is easy to reach from almost anywhere in the city. Similarly, the local public transport has several lines that are quite close to this iconic palace.
Visits to Rosenborg Castle are usually divided into two, the most common walk through the palace gardens, while the castle itself is visited separately. Remember that in order to enter you have to buy a ticket.
Similarly, Rosenborg Castle is not only a beautiful place, but it is also very educational, as it functions as a museum in which many things related to the history of the Danish Royal Family are exhibited.
