Madrid is ideal for losing yourself in the streets of its lively neighbourhoods. Starting with one of the most famous squares, Puerta del Sol is the quintessential meeting point for locals and tourists.


There are several points of interest, such as the statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, symbols of Madrid. Near the Puerta del Sol you will arrive at the Plaza Mayor, one of the most beautiful in the city, with incredible corners to discover and ideal terraces for a drink.


While located in the heart of the city, there is the Mercado de San Miguel, a good meeting point for lovers of gastronomy. It is characterized by its iron architecture and its more than 30 stalls, where you will taste the typical dishes of Spain.


Another ideal place to enjoy Madrid is Gran Vía, the most famous street in the city. Here you will find a good atmosphere at any time of the day. For a while it was nicknamed Madrid’s Broadway because of the number of cinemas. Today, it is the perfect avenue for shopping and discovering new restaurants.

If we enter the historic part of the city, one of the first stops when touring Madrid should be the Almudena Cathedral, considered the most important religious building.

 

This temple stands out for its enormous dome, from which excellent views of the surroundings are obtained. While inside, the stained glass windows create a magical atmosphere. Also, did you know that you can find a part of Egypt in Spain? It is the Temple of Debod, an Egyptian temple that is more than 2,200 years old. It was a gift from Egypt to Spain for its collaboration in saving the Nubian temples.

Another interesting museum to visit in Madrid is the Reina Sofía Museum, which continues the periods not covered by the Prado Museum. There are works by great artists such as Dalí and Miró, among others. However, the painting that draws all eyes upon seeing it is undoubtedly Picasso’s Guernica.


Finally, for children to have photos with their favorite characters, the Wax Museum is an experience not to be missed. Opened in 1972, the museum has more than 450 celebrities from the world of sports, actors and even historical figures.
