Florida Street, the most famous pedestrian street in Buenos Aires.

Today we are going to have a lot of fun. Today, we go shopping, cafes, shows and much more. Today to Florida Street!

Florida Street begins on Rivadavia Avenue, near the Catedral subway station and next to the Plaza de Mayo. It ends at Plaza de San Martin, San Martin subway station. No matter where you decide to start, what is certain is that you have to walk the whole of it. It is little more than a kilometer, but what a kilometer!

It is the oldest pedestrian street in Buenos Aires. A large section of 10 blocks that was closed to traffic for the first time in 1911, becoming completely pedestrianized in 1971.

Long before, back in the late 18th century, they already realized that their privileged location -in the very heart of Buenos Aires – was going to make this street one of the main arteries of the city and they decided to pave it for the first time.

Significant buildings

The entire street is lined with imposing buildings, some of the most beautiful in the city. When you reach the intersection with Avenida el Presidente Roque Sánchez Peña, you will see four buildings, one on each corner, and four domes that will take your breath away. Just as stunned you will be at the junction with Juan Domingo Perón. Don’t stop looking up. As impressive is what the hundreds of shop windows offer as the buildings that house them.

When you look down, after observing that beautiful Art Deco building or that other one with a classic style, you will see how art continues to take over the streets. Musicians, dancers, actors and all kinds of shows adorn Florida Street every day, to complete a street in which nothing can be missing.
