Are you traveling to Lisbon for the first time and want to enjoy the weekend to the fullest? Two days in one of the most beautiful cities in Europe are enough to bring home the best memories.
Making the most of the first day of touring Lisbon, the Barrio Alto is one of the main places in the city to visit. The streets of this area reflect the modern life of a historic place, thanks to its chic restaurants and bars.
The Barrio Alto also offers good panoramic views of the lower part of Lisbon thanks to its location. From the San Pedro de Alcántara viewpoint there are impressive views of the Alfama neighborhoods, the Castillo de San Jorge and the right side of the Tagus River.
On the other hand, the Santa Catalina viewpoint has less striking views, but it is compensated by the good atmosphere that surrounds it. The area is often filled with young people and tourists who gather to play music or eat.
And when it comes to food, the markets found in the Barrio Alto are worth a visit. In a small garden next to the Plaza de Príncipe Real, there is an antique fair where handicrafts and furniture are sold.
Visiting the markets of Lisbon is the best way to get closer to the other side of the city, as well as making some interesting discovery that will allow you to take an original souvenir of the trip.
What better way to end the first day of visiting Lisbon than by getting to know the city’s nightlife? Among so many different environments, the Barrio Alto stands out for being the ideal place to start the night.
This neighborhood is one of the most popular to kick off a night of music and drinks. The bars there open shortly after dinner, making it a common meeting point for visitors.
The peculiar thing about this area is that it is full of small bars. And since there is no space, the usual thing is to buy drinks in plastic cups and drink in the street, while chatting with friends or meeting new people.
The usual drink in Barrio Alto is beer. But the great exception to the rule is caipirinha and its varieties. This is probably due to the influence of the great Brazilian colony in Portugal.
This informality continues until the wee hours of the morning, when the bars begin to close.
At the end of the two-day trip through Lisbon, a good option is to end it enjoying the green areas that the city has. These quiet environments are ideal for long walks.
One of the best places to appreciate the green space is the Eduardo VII Park, the largest in the city and with unique views. The central area of the park is made up of grass, with two cobblestone sidewalks on the sides.
In addition, at the top of the park there is a beautiful viewpoint that offers a beautiful postcard of the city.
Further on, you will find the beautiful Amália Rodrigues Garden. From there you can see the amphitheater and its large artificial lake. To end the day, the best plan is to visit its cozy terrace to have a drink while observing the landscape.
